12,000 SA homes at risk | Adelaide Now
More reports of dodgy installations under Labor’s bungled home insulation program have been revealed today, this time in South Australia.Â
MORE than 12,000 SA homes are at risk of fire and electrical damage because of bad insulation. Material was installed by unlicensed workers in nearly a third of the 38,000 SA homes signed up for the Federal Government’s home-insulation program.
These figures have been revealed months after the Government gave the impression that South Australia was almost immune to the problems which had plagued the scheme in other states.
Five house fires are being investigated in this state but the scheme has been linked to four deaths and 200 fires nationwide amid concerns about its rapid roll-out and use of untrained installers.
The figures have been revealed just days before Christmas, despite The Advertiser requesting the information before the August Federal Election. They show 38,802 South Australian householders signed up to the $2.5 billion initiative as part of the Federal Government’s move to recession-proof the economy and cut household energy bills.
The information also reveals the Consumer Affairs Department is investigating 61 South Australian installers.
