Labor Waste

As part of its response to the reckless and wasteful spending of the Rudd-Gillard Labor Government, the Coalition has introduced legislation to establish a Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) to ensure transparency and accountability in Government spending and better value for money.

Liberal Senator Guy Barnett, who introduced the bill and a related bill on value for money on behalf of the Coalition, said the PBO will focus on the budget and budget cycle and will be independent of Government much like the Auditor-General or Ombudsman. “The PBO will be an impediment to future Labor governments engaging in further reckless spending and will ensure better financial outcomes for all Australians,” Senator Barnett said.
